about

With their roots in the ever pulsating and innovative creative movement in the city of Porto, LOLA LOLA were formed in 2014, from the union of a very experienced and tested musical trio: Tiago Gil (Guitar), Miguel Lourenço (Bass) e Hélder Coelho (Drums), all formerly of Os Tornados, to which were added the disconcerting voice of Carla Capela, known in Porto’s nightlife circuit as DJ Just Honey, and a powerful baritone sax, currently in the hands of the master Rui Teixeira. Nurtured by the musical universe of the 50s and 60s, and inspired by R&B/Popcorn, 60s Beat and Rock’n’Roll, Lola Lola signed in early 2015 with the prestigious independent labels, “Sleazy Records”, and released in the intervening period singles “Money in the Can” (June/2015), “Sweet Lovin’” (December/2016) and the double-sider “Voodoo Man/VoodooWoman” (February/2018). With their songs being highlighted around the world by cult DJs, radio stations and the music blogosphere, LOLA LOLA have traveled the Iberian highways to clubs and festivals, firing up audiences and leaving a trail of worn shoes and infatuated eardrums behind them. Now, as strong bet by the sovereign Chaputa! Records, luso seal of cult in which they debut in September with the release of “Killed a Man in a Field”, their fourth phonographic record.

A-side, “Killed a Man in a Field” is a rip of primordial simplicity, with a melody set on a dense and secure base, asking for a journey inside each one. As if it wasn´t enough, they offer us on the B-side, a withering interpretation of the indisputable “Somebody’s Always Trying” by Joy Byers, for the epicenter of the dance floor, with which no one can stand still.

Presented in a distinguished drawing from the illustrator Rui Ricardo, this fourth 7’’ from the Oporto band features, once more, the duo Nuno Riviera, in the rough production and creative mixing and Mike Mariconda, that mastered it in an exemplary way. For the moving pictures, they elected the filmmaker Rodrigo Areias which provides the ideal setting for this theme. Always thirsty for the road, LOLA LOLA seize the launch of their fourth 7’’ to get back to the concerts: in Lisbon, on the October 18th at the Sabotage Club and in Porto, on the October 19th, at the Barracuda -- Clube de Roque, setting audiences aflame with their hot and straightforward style.
